Kira Senior citizens sensitized on nutrition and physical exercise for their wellbeing

The elderly in Kira have been sensitized on nutrition and physical exercise for their wellbeing

Kira Senior citizens aged 80 years and above have been advised to focus much on well-feeding and physical exercise as a way of preventing many of the diseases which result from poor feeding and body idleness. The sensitization session has been carried out by Mr. Patrick Ssekisambu, the Municipal Health Educator at the Municipal Head quarters engaging the elderly who had thronged the Municipality to get paid their SAGE benefits for the period of July.

Ssekisambu said that as someone gets older the body gets worn out and the digestive system get weakened in that  the body starts demanding more of greens, fruits and proteins than hard and fatty foods.

“At your age am sure all of you are aware of your health status and so you have to be selective of what you eat depending on your body weight, height, blood pressure, sugar levels among other. There may be so many things that you used to enjoy during your youthful days but if you decide to consume them now the aftermath will be different. You may be old as you are but very resourceful to the family, Community and the nation at large and so it’s better you eat food as medicine not medicine as food for your health” he guided advising the care takers to ensure that they encourage the elders to have regular at least around their compounds but not to keep them indoors. “Feeding the body without exercising has caused many of the aged people diseases such as leg and back pain, encourage them to always stretch so that their muscles do not freeze. That too much sitting has caused blood clotting to many, many have got their legs swollen among others and the sustainable solution to such is regular walking” he emphasized
